CARCASSONNE (11)
We know these timeless hits by heart, and yet we are rediscovering them in a whole new light.
Quirky and inventive, Macadam Farmer puts a fresh spin on iconic artists (ACDC, Bee Gees, U2, Cyndi Lauper, Queen, Prince, Simple Minds, and more), infusing them with the spicy flavor of the Louisiana bayous and the soulful colors of the American South.
With a unique line-up—vocals, guitar/harmonica, banjo/mandoline, sousaphone, and drums—Macadam Farmer invites everyone to a moment of pure conviviality. With smiles all around, the audience is whisked from one surprise to the next!

Weary of the frantic pace of world tours across the Loire region, Richard Lingals now leads a peaceful life on his Forez farm, where he plants seeds in the macadam to grow beautiful songs...
Hailing from the North, Johnny Jumper landed in France to take his 'Harmonica Baccalaureate' as a private candidate. Since then, he’s been addicted to 'scratch cards' on both 6 and 12 strings. A pragmatic character, his onesie allows him to squeeze in a nap on stage between two songs.
Accompanied by his trusty banjo, Plectromus, Uncle Berry hunts alligators with his bare hands in the bayous of the 'Louisiane Carcassonnaise' to turn them into cowboy boots.
A fanatic for pistons and pipes, Fidel Castrol burns rubber on the legendary Route 66—or the RN 113—astride his sousaphone, which purrs like a vintage V8!
The great-great-grandson of the legendary founder of the famous Massey Ferguson brand, he swapped the furrows of the earth for those of music. At the helm of his 'tracto-drum-set,' Mathew is a true harvester of rhythm. He kicks into gear at the slightest sixteenth-rest, sowing the beat and reaping the tempo with the precision of the finest farm machinery.

Quirky and inventive, Macadam Farmer infuses iconic artists (Cyndi Lauper, Depeche Mode, Yes, Genesis, AC/DC, U2, Boney M...) with the spicy, earthy soul of the bayous. It’s a journey to rediscover timeless hits in a whole new light.
« In the realm of quirky covers and adaptations, Frémeaux & Associés now presents Macadam Farmer—a project with more in common with Hayseed Dixie’s 'agro-Southern' vibe than with Paul Mauriat. Wrapped in a deliberately kitsch-meets-chic layout by Ben Hito (the widely acclaimed creator of countless roots, ska, and blues posters), this French quintet puts a dozen pop hits from the late seventies to the nineties through the Appalachian bluegrass meat grinder (featuring banjo, sousaphone, washboard, mandolin, jaw harp, harmonica, and various kitchenware). From Cyndi Lauper’s 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' to Patrick Hernandez’s 'Born To Be Alive,' via Soft Cell’s 'Tainted Love,' A-Ha’s 'Take On Me,' Boney M’s 'Rasputin,' and even Depeche Mode’s 'Personal Jesus' (cheekily dubbed 'Dépède Moche'), this musical 'pochade' is nonetheless meticulously crafted. An encounter as improbable as it is irresistible—somewhere between John Boorman’s Deliverance and Saturday Night Fever on a makeshift dance floor deep in the boondocks—Macadam Farmer installs a disco ball right in the middle of your dairy herd. A double round of moonshine and cancoillotte cheese for everyone! »
